A unique feature of Assam economy is backwardness amidst plenty. While the state is rich in natural resources and it provides nearly 25% of the requirements of petroleum products of the entire country, the economic growth or growth of per capita income has not maintained pace with the rest of the nation. • Assam has four oil refineries and is the second highest producer of natural gas in the world.
